Bathroom Sink Saga

The taps in our bathroom had been dripping for months. My husband attempted to change the washers but found that the metal had corroded so new washers didn't help. He switched something so that only the cold water tap dripped. That went on for months until he finally decided to buy new taps.

There is only one type of taps that will fit on our sink so buying a replacement was a no-brainer. He got them home and after 4 hours and several costly new tools he had to buy he still hadn't got them fixed. They leaked underneath the sink now.

I phoned my dad to come help because my dad is an engineer and can fix anything. Plus he has tools to fix everything so my husband could just borrow the correct tool. I tell my husband that my dad is coming and he phones him and tells him not to bother cause he's fixed it now. Was this the truth? Nope.

We have only one bathroom so when the sink is out of commission we all have to use the only other sink in the kitchen. Not very convenient. Next day comes and husband finally concedes defeat and calls my dad. Dad comes over and they put new flexi hoses underneath. Dad leaves. It still leaks.

Husband makes several more attempts to fix the taps. He replaces the drain, and plumbing. He pulls the sink off the wall and has to recaulk everything. It still leaks. But it doesn't leak all the time only sometime.

Finally he realizes that when he put the taps on he didn't caulk under them! Water was dripping under the taps and under the sink and that's why it didn't always leak. So then he takes out the taps and caulks under them. It still leaks. So then he puts caulking around the outside in the back. His idea to keep water off the caulking is to cover that area with tape. How the heck will the caulk dry if no air can get to it not to mention the water that will come from the front part of the taps under to the back. UG!!

Men are the most frustrating people in the world. A simple job turns into a week without a bathroom tap and it's still not fixed. Oh and the side mirror on the car is broken and you can't adjust it now. Even when you try to adjust it manually it won't stay in position. The front door needs a new knob and lock and there are a million other jobs to be done around this house but I'm really afraid when my husband attempts to do anything. He's just so not a Mr' Fix It kind of guy. He has no ability to think a job through from beginning to end and then start the job. He just jumps right in and starts with no thought.

I'll be taking the car to someplace to fix the side mirror cause I can't drive it without it. I'll also have to get a new door knob myself. If I ask my husband to do it we'll end up with a ugly door knob that doesn't match anything and it won't work properly and there will be a big scratch on it where said husband accidentally bashed it trying to put it in. Even when the jobs he does works they don't look right. He "fixed" the leak in the flat roof once and smeared black tar all over the soffits. It looked terrible and when we had the roof done it cost a bunch of extra money to have that soffit fixed.

I guess it will be another 36 hours for the new caulking I had to put on the taps in the bathroom to cure. Husband says that is the only caulking and there is none that cures in 12 or 24 hours. I'm wondering about this and will probably google it later but right now we still don't have a sink in our bathroom and I'm about ready to toss the sink and husband out the door!
