Is It Over? Can I Come Out Now?

Have we got past the worst of this pandemic?  Can we be secure in going out and being safe by wearing a mask in crowds and washing our hands?  I don't know but most people have gone back to regular life and people are still getting sick and some are dying.  I just hope and pray that this nasty virus does not knock on our door because my husband and I have parents in their 80's and we would like them to stick around for a bit longer as they are all doing really well for their ages.

Our weather here is cooler than normal and wet.  It doesn't rain all day but it's cloudy and drizzles off and on.  The sun will peek out once in awhile and make us think that spring is here but it goes back behind the clouds soon enough.  I really wanted to see the lunar eclipse last night but of course it was too cloudy to see any of it.

Usually by now we have the air conditioners in both windows and are complaining about the heat but so far it's stayed under 20C.  I'm not going to complain too much about the cool wet weather though because last year we had record heat and forest fires.  Smoke and extreme heat isn't fun to deal with especially when you car has no a/c so you have to drive with your windows down sucking in all the smoke.  UG!  I'd rather we not have another summer last the last one.  Most of our plants got cooked in the heat.  The strawberries and any plants that were shaded at peak heat times  were the only ones who survived.  If I forgot to move the hanging strawberry plants into the shade in the afternoon the berries would get cooked and go to mush.  Tomatoes loved the sun and heat but the plants got stressed from the extreme heat of 45C+ every day and didn't produce large fruit no matter how much we tried to keep them watered.

Life is just ticking along with all of us doing fairly well.  The husband worked through the covid outbreak at his job without being give any N95 masks and he didn't get sick so we are thankful for that.  I got the deal of the century last month.  My mom has a Bernina sewing machine.  It's a great machine and I know how expensive they are.  A man was selling one with a sewing table and chair for $10!  I made my husband run out and pick it up.  The man was selling it for his dad and it had been his mom's who had passed away 20 years ago and it had just sat there all that time.  I got it home and it looked like it had barely been used.  It came with all the bits and bobs and a great sewing table desk too.  If I wanted to sell that machine it's selling for $500-$1200 on ebay.  I'm going to keep it for now because the daughter has borrowed my sewing machine.  I think I'll take up sewing again as I haven't sewn anything since the kids were little.  I used to buy cute flannels and make them jammies every winter.

We put in some more raised beds for veggies this year and are waiting impatiently to fill them.  I have cucumbers and sugar pumpkins all ready but it's still a bit too cold for them to go out.  We did put some pepper plants out but they are in a warm spot in the yard and are still looking good after our one cold night of 3C so the temps should start to go up now.  We also got a couple of cedar trees to plant along our fence line to block the neighbours view into our yard.  It's a rental house and their front door is along the side of the house right beside our 6' fence.  They sit and stand out there all the time and look into our yard.  Since it's a rental property we want to put something up that gives us our privacy back and trees are the only thing that you can use that the city will allow to be over 6feet tall.  They are just 5' tall right now but hopefully they will grow quickly and we can go in our yard without being stared at by our neighbours who stand on their porch and look into our yard.  It's a weird entrance because it's an enclosed side porch that is inset a bit.  If they went in and out of their home like normal people it wouldn't be so bad but every time I go outside one of them is standing on the porch smoking or vaping weed.  I'm not found of that skunky weed stink so although the people are nice enough and quiet I'm not a fan of having to always interact with them every time I want to go in my back yard or inhale their pot smoke (pot is legal here).

Tomorrow I think I'll keep working on the decluttering.  I've made a dent so far and there is actual space in several areas now instead of things being packed in like sardines!  Small houses suck for storage and when have to put something away it's hard to find so I am working on decluttering and getting better storage solutions so we can more easily find the things we have.  The garage and basement (or what little are we have in our partial basement as the rest is dirt crawlspace) need some kind of shelving.  We still rent a storage locker but I'd really like to get rid of it but I'm not sure if that is going to happen as the daugher may move back home and then we have to store all her extra stuff.  Hopefully we don't have to get rid of the storage locker any time soon cause I'm not sure where that stuff would go.

I hope anyone who reads this has a wonderful day, I'm sure going to try to do that!
