Day 20 - Losing My Equalibrium

I'm limiting my use of social media because there is so much stuff out there and much of it is inflammatory and false.  But what I do know is that they don't really know what is going to happen.  They can make predictions but they may not be accurate.  I'm only listening to scientists and knowledgeable medical people.  I'm trying to not listen to too many politicians or business people.  They have an agenda and I'm not sure if that is good for us or not at this stage.

Panic comes and goes but mostly the fear of the unknown is with me.  My imaginations swings from dooms day stuff to business as usual.  I find myself wondering how I will manage if things really fall apart.  What will it be like if we have massive food shortages or other social upheaval?

I know my grandparents lived through the 1920's with the stock market crash.  Those were some lean times and people were hungry and couldn't find jobs.  People who didn't or couldn't find work were not taken care of but shunned and left on their own.  I think people feared these people lest their bad luck rub off on them.  If you had enough to eat you didn't want to share too much because you never knew if bad times would come to you.  Instability was a fact of life.

We haven't lived through anything like those times although the shortages of toilet paper and food items recently has me wondering if this will be our new normal for awhile.  Will the people who have the space and knowledge and can grow their own food be better off than the ones who can't?  Will people with jobs and a decent pay have to struggle to hold on to their homes?

How do you prepare for such an uncertain future?  We have no idea what life is going to be like for the next year or so.  The economy could be affected much longer too.  Will this be a good thing or will the rich continue to take a large share of the pie and the rest of us struggle more for our daily existence?  Will governments fall and untrustworthy groups and people take power for themselves?

Who knows, but what I do know is I will continue to do what I have to and stay home so this virus isn't spread too quickly.  We have had a stablility for so long maybe now our taste of instability and uncertainty will wake us up to how lucky we have been.  History has not been so lucky for many people.

What do you think will change if anything?  Do you fall into thinking about the worse case scenarios and if you do how do you cope?  What changes in your behavior are you making?

Keep doing the right things by staying home and washing your hands or wear a mask when out.  If we work together for the good of all we are stronger.

Stay healthy.
