I know I have posted anything in a long time. I have a bunch of unpublished ones though so it feels like I have even though I didn't post them. We are living in uncertain times right now. Everything is so up in the air. No one really know what is going to happen and most of us are just doing our best.
This Covid-19 virus has pretty much put everyone's plans on hold. Here where I live the government has closed any businesses that aren't considered essential services. So restaurant, parks, salons, clothing stores and many other businesses are closed. The schools are closed but the kids would be on spring break right now. Too bad they don't have any activities or playgrounds they can go to so parents have to find ways to keep them safe at home or outside away from other people. The hospital, grocery stores, hardware stores, are all open right now. Some restaurants are doing take-out to keep some money coming in and some will even deliver. No one is supposed to gather in groups or visit each other. My nephews wedding is now postponed which is pretty sad for them but something they had to do.
My husband works at the hospital and my son works at a grocery store so they are both working still. I'm staying home but really it's not going to do me much good if they bring it home to me. So far there have been no positive tests here yet. This information came from an actual Dr we know so it's accurate. That makes me feel a bit better but we know this won't last long. We live in a small town of just under 10,000 people but we have the area's regional hospital. For many things people from outlying areas have to come here.
Our hospital is also in chaos right now because the emergency department is being expanded. They have been working on this for over a year, it has nothing to do with covid-19. It will be a year or more before they are done and then they have scheduled several other additions and changes. The ER waiting room is right in the hospital lobby for now. They do make people who think they have the virus call before they come so special precautions can be taken but there are always a few idiots who won't bother. If you are having difficulty breathing you are to call the ambulance and let them know you may be infected with the virus.
Stores that are still open have special hours in the early morning for the elderly and immune compromised people to shop. Special cleaning measures are being taken in all the stores and employees are told to wash their hands, not touch their faces and stay 2 meters (6ft) away from customers.
It all feels like a disaster movie right now. With stores being sold out of toilet paper, paper towel and other things. When you have to go grocery shopping you don't know what the stores will have in stock. Fear of running out of things has people panic buying way more than they need meaning that people who are low income don't get a chance to get the things they need. Stores have had to put limits on the number of things people can buy. Some people try to get around this but some get caught. There's always a pathetic few who try to break the rules. Don't be pathetic and take more than you need. The new term for these people is Covidiot.
I've been home most of the week. I visited with my older sister one day last week but She's retired and hasn't been going out. We stayed well apart and I tried not to touch too much. I haven't seen my parents who are in their 80's. I won't visit them because the two other people in my house could infect me and if I don't know and visit them I could pass it on to them so I just phone them and ask how they are doing a few times a week. When they need groceries one of us will bring them and drop them off. They are pretty bored at home all the time but with my dad's lung issues and their ages it's the best way for them to stay healthy.
I'm going to call this Day 8 of social isolation. I will have to do a bit of grocery shopping tomorrow but will be careful and wash my hands a ton when I get home. I may even wipe them with rubbing alcohol. LOL!
I am feeling very lucky. I'm glad that my husband can still work through this and even if he did get sick he would still be paid. I'm glad my son is able to work although even if he wasn't he would still be okay living here with us. Our daughter lives with her boyfriend and they both work in a grocery store so they have their jobs for now too. I know so many people are going to take a huge financial hit and for once I feel very blessed about our finances. I am glad that our area has no cases yet and we may have shut everything down in time to slow the spread of this virus. My family is healthy and we each have each other's back. We will help anyone we know if we can and hope that other's do the same. There are so many positive stories coming from this horrible situation that it brings me to tears. Sure there will always be the Covidiots but the rest of you are pretty amazing and I'm glad you are here living at this time with me.
Stay healthy.
